This well-oiled operation is known for both its innovation and attention to detail… a direct result of the top-notch people behind the brand, says company President Mark Finnie. “We are proud to recognize Kelli Murrow’s award-winning brand building by promoting her to Performance Machine’s Director of Sales & Marketing.”

Kelli’s promotion comes just in time for all the all the craziness of a new catalog (the biggest in PM history), not to mention the trade shows, the recent expansion of RSD hard parts and the acquisition of Xtreme Machine Wheels. “Be careful what you ask for,” she jokes. “Seriously, I love what I do and I am fortunate to work with an organization packed with people who do too!” In nearly two decades since starting as the receptionist with Performance Machine, Murrow has seen the highs… and the lows of the powersports industry.

“I have been fortunate enough to experience growth and the recession of our industry and I can tell you that it is true — that which doesn’t break you really does make you stronger,’ says Kelli. “PM has worked diligently during the tough times and I am very, very lucky to have worked through the lows and happy to be in this position as we see growth once again.”

To get a copy of the 2012 Performance Machine catalog and to learn the latest of what is being rolled out, be sure to stop by Booth #401 during the V-Twin Expo in Cincinnati or Booth #1627 at the Dealernews International Powersports Dealer Expo in Indianapolis.

IRVINE, Calif., Dec. 6, 2011 – For the first time ever, the Motorcycle Industry Council is offering the motorcycling community an in-depth tire guide. Developed in conjunction with leading motorcycle tire manufacturers, this extensive, 20-page street tire guide is designed to assist motorcyclists with tire selection, inspection, maintenance and more. Not only does the MIC Tire Guide help riders choose the correct tires for their particular motorcycle and riding style, it also provides information on proper inflation, the hazards of overloading a motorcycle, and recognizing when it’s time to replace tires.

The MIC Tire Guide also helps riders better understand and utilize sidewall information, and includes color photos, technical diagrams and charts outlining speed and load ratings. Also included are tire-mounting suggestions, a primer detailing the differences between how motorcycle tires and car tires work, and tips for dealing with a tire failure. Finally, a Tire Replacement Log and a Load Limit Calculator are added for convenience.

“At the MIC, we believe that motorcyclists should have a thorough understanding of how their tires work,” said MIC President and CEO Tim Buche, “including how they differ from car tires, and how the available traction can change from moment to moment. This sort of awareness can prompt riders to be more diligent in inspecting and maintaining their tires, and also in replacing their tires at the right time. Overall, the MIC’s goal with this manual is to provide a guide that helps motorcyclists avoid premature tire wear, damage and ultimately, crashes.”

Individuals can download and print single copies of the MIC Tire Guide for free by visiting mic.org. Packs of 25 can be ordered for an introductory price of $19 plus tax and shipping. For larger quantities, contact MIC for special pricing. Additionally, the MIC is working with tire distributors and retailers on establishing further, more widespread distribution channels for the MIC Tire Guide.

The Motorcycle Industry Council exists to preserve, protect and promote motorcycling through government relations, communications and media relations, statistics and research, aftermarket programs, development of data communications standards, and activities surrounding technical and regulatory issues. As a not-for-profit, national industry association, the MIC seeks to support motorcyclists by representing manufacturers and distributors of motorcycles, scooters, motorcycle/ATV/ROV parts and accessories, and members of allied trades such as insurance, finance and investment companies, media companies and consultants.

The MIC is headquartered in Irvine, Calif., with a government relations office in metropolitan Washington, D.C. First called the MIC in 1970, the organization has been in operation since 1914. Visit the MIC at www.mic.org.

A variety of technologies have been incorporated into the new MICHELIN® Commander® II tire which give it up to twice [...]

A variety of technologies have been incorporated into the new MICHELIN® Commander® II tire which give it up to twice the usable tire life of its competitors* – making it the new standard in cruiser tire longevity – as well as providing a stable ride in a variety of conditions and styling that the discerning cruiser-motorcycle owner requires.

Following are a summary of the technologies incorporated into the new Commander II tire:

Silica Rain Technology (SRT) – Featured on MICHELIN Commander II radial tires, SRT integrates silica into the tire’s tread compound to improve grip in cooler temperatures and on wet pavement, without compromising tread life. Michelin was a pioneer in introducing silica into passenger car tires and continues that trend in the motorcycle realm.

For the majority of Commander II tires, which are bias-ply, new tread compounds were developed to echo the characteristics of the SRT-infused radial, with emphasis on tire longevity and wet-weather handling.

New Tread Pattern design – Tread pattern on the MICHELIN® Commander® II tire was influenced by the style of cruiser motorcycles as well as the popular Pilot Road series of tires with a “flame effect” design. Longitudinal grooves in the tread pattern evacuate water to enhance grip in wet conditions and the tread pattern has been optimized with computer design to maximize mileage.

Amplified Density Technology (ADT) – ADT is a rigid, high-density carcass architecture which allows for enhanced maneuverability and feedback to the rider, especially during cornering.

The difference between conventional 71-thread ply tires and the MICHELIN® Commander® II tire’s 90 thread ply illustrates the increased density of the new tire versus competitors:

Aramid fiber – All MICHELIN® Commander® II rear tires, except the narrowest sizes (80/90-21 and 100/90 B19) integrate Aramid fiber into their construction. Aramid is applied to the crown ply of the tire to allow for low weight and increased casing rigidity while providing stability at high speeds** by resisting growth.

Square-bead sidewall – The unique sidewall of the new MICHELIN® Commander® II tire features square bead wires in the tire bead. These wires improve bead strength and casing rigidity, which enhances handling.

Additionally, the square bead wires provide ease of installation by improving the primary air seal when mounting and inflating.

For specific photos of technology applications, please visit www.michelinmedia.com.

Dedicated to the improvement of sustainable mobility, Michelin designs, manufactures and sells tires for every type of vehicle, including airplanes, automobiles, bicycles, earthmovers, farm equipment, heavy-duty trucks and motorcycles. The company also publishes travel guides, hotel and restaurant guides, maps and road atlases. Headquartered in Greenville, S.C., Michelin North America (www.michelin-us.com) employs 21,400 and operates 18 major manufacturing plants in 16 locations.

The 2012 season at the ECTA’s new home in Ohio promises to be the best year of racing ever for [...]

The 2012 season at the ECTA’s new home in Ohio promises to be the best year of racing ever for motorcyclists looking to wring everything possible out of their bike. The new track is not only newer but it is also a LOT smoother. With the move to Ohio, the Throttle Nation Top Speed Challenge hopes to bring more motorcyclists than ever to the new track. The location in Wilmington, Ohio brings land speed racing to the heart of the USA geographically speaking which should make it a lot easier for a most racers to enjoy the event. Not only do we expect more racers, more fast bikes and a better track, it’s almost a sure bet that the trophy and umbrella girls will be hotter than ever too. Ok, just so everyone is clear there really isn’t any trophy or umbrella girls but they are welcome to come if they work for free.

The Throttle Nation motorcycle event (September 29-30th 2012) is held in conjunction with the normal ECTA event with a few special rules that make this a heads up race that is a bit unique compared to typical motorcycle land speed racing. 2012 will be the 7th annual motorcycle event and prizes (to be announced) are awarded for the fastest speed turned in each for six classes: 650cc all motor; 650cc plus power adder; 1000cc all motor; 1000cc plus power adder; Unlimited cc all motor; and Unlimited cc plus power adder.

Power adder classes may have only one “power adder” nitrous, turbo or supercharger installed. If you think you are fast how about past winner Charlie Anstaett who went 259.8560 mph on a turbo Hayabusa? Is there anybody out there that has anything for him? Remember these bikes are ridden by their owner not high priced jockeys. There are a very precious few people in the world that have been faster than that in the standing mile aboard a streetbike.

“All motor” classes may not have any power adder installed. The winner in each of the classes earns at least the undeniable bragging rights that go along with owning one of the indisputable fastest bikes in the country. IF you really good and break a true land speed record over 200mph you could be among the first to receive the new 200mph hat from The Ohio Mile.

All entrants must be ECTA eligible and fully registered and tech-inspected for the meet and all bikes must be street registered and ridden by the registered owner. Otherwise, the rules are pretty simple. To encourage the hot-rodding spirit, Shootout rules allow virtually any modifications, as long as they are street legal. The class displacements refer to the engine cases only — so if you can get 800ccs out of a 650cc motor and keep it together, you are eligible for the 650cc class.

If you are tired of hearing your buddy’s claim to go 250mph on the way to work very day (we are tired of it too), then talk them into showing up in Ohio in 2012 and taking a few passes so we can all find out how fast they really are.

No one raced a Pro Street bike as often, as hard, and as winningly as Ronnie Mitchell Racing did in 2011. Riding the hot pink Suzuki Hayabusa known as Rizzo, Bud Yoder took both the Milan Dragway and NHDRO (No Hatin’) Pro Street championships. Mike “Kavos” Kovacevich took over the seat for the Toronto Streetbike Shootout championship. But that’s not all. After winning on a Friday night at Milan, the team made the all night drive to Englishtown, New Jersey and won the prestigious Shakedown at E-town as well. The team made only one MiRock Superbike Series race this year, but they made that trip count too by winning the Rockingham opener. Yoder finished off the year with the Orient Express Pro Street win at the November 2011 Manufacturers Cup, running a career best 7.03 along the way.

November 2011

AMA Grand National Flat Track Calistoga, CA

Having a couple of weekends off coming into the off season has allowed me to put some more time into my Flat Track Racing Program. This was the second to last round of the AMA GNC series. I rode well and continue to learn more and more everytime I can get to the track.

Fort Leonard Wood Missouri

My first show at the base was can- celled due to rainy conditions. I was really excited when I recieved the call to come back out a couple of weeks later. This time around the weather was beautiful! A lot of people came out for the shows and I was able to put on two demos. It took two tries to pull this show off, but it was well worth the wait!

MTV’s the inbetweeners

When MTV contacted me to come out and be part of their show the inbe- tweeners, I really didn’t know what to expect. It didn’t take very long to turn into one of the best experiences of my ca- reer! I had a blast meeting everyone and hanging out and being part of the crew. I was really excited to be on board with this and look forward to more collabora- tions with MTV in the future. The show is set to air early this spring in the U.S.

RedBull Night Tracks

RedBull approached me with a project titled “RedBull Night Tracks” that was to be filmed in downtown Chicago. When I was informed that I was going to be able to ride in the streets I was 100% on board. The shoot was to be shot over night for only four hours, so we had a lot of work to do in a short time period. Things went so well during the shoot that plans are already in the works for more projects for 2012! By the time you read this the clip will be going viral!

AMA Grand National Flat Track, Pomona, CA

Coming into the last race of the year I was really excited and a little bummed that the season was over. I was just starting to get my grove on the flat track bike. Coming into Pomona I felt good and was ready to put a good run in. I ran well all weekend, but slipped out of the grove on the last lap missing the main by one spot. I had such a great time running the series this year and can not wait until the 2012 series!

Eddie Mulders Flat Track Series, Willow Springs, CA

Coming off of a great weekend at Pomona I was excited to run a couple of local races. I rode well all day and got a good starting posi- tion in the Amatuer “B” main. I left the line, took the lead in the first corner and never looked back, winning the race by al- most a whole straight away. Always feels good when I can put one on top of the box!

As we approach the off season for my Freestyle program, I look forward to some much needed practice. Also some training with moto and flat track rac- ing. Nothing ever stops around here, it just slows down enough for me to take a deep breath and rebuild some bikes. There is a lot of things in the works for the 2012 season. I feel as though this is the year that we open more doors to the main- stream for athletes like myself. I’m really excited about some of the deals on the ta- ble and I really look forward to sharing them with all of you when the time comes!

Last month I mentioned that I have been getting a lot of requests for media from vari- ous sponsors. I just wanted to bring it up again.

Fifteen-year old phenomenon Jake Lewis added the 600 Superbike National Championship as well as three regional Sportsman Championships to his list of achievements in 2011. Lewis already clinched both the 750 Superbike and 750 Superstock championships earlier in the year on his KWS Motorsports built, Earl’s Racing Team Yamaha R6. Out of the four classes that Lewis competed in 2011, only the 600 Superstock title escaped his grasp. Jake came up just short of the title in a hard fought battle with Monster Energy Yamaha’s Garrett Gerloff. This was a break-out year for Jake. In total, Jake won 21 races, achieved, 31 podium finishes and won 6 out of seven championships.

Tim Hunt won the Open Superstock National Championship on his Dunlop-shod, KWS Motorsports built Suzuki GSX-R1000. Unfortunately the WERA Superbike race was decided before it started when both Hunt and his main competition for the championship, Tim Bemisderfer crashed in separate races on Saturday. Both riders sustained minor injuries, but they were enough that neither rider could compete. This meant the Open Superstock Championship fell into Hunt’s hands and the WERA Superbike Championship was conceded to Bemisderfer.

KWS Motorsport’s Luie Zendejas switched to a KWS built GSX-R1000 Superbike for the last race of the season, while continuing to run the BMW S1000RR in Superstock. The new GSX-R helped him finished his first full season as an expert with three top five finishes and finished 4th in both the Open Superstock and WERA Superbike championships. In total, Zendejas finished the year with one win and five podium finishes in the WERA National series in 2011.

KWS Sponsored rider Scott Carpenter won his eighth Senior Superbike Championship on his KWS built GSX-R1000. Scott won one race, scored one podium, and one top five at the GNF this year. In total, Scott won 26 races and achieved 13 podium finishes in various regional and national races in 2011.

Despite being hit by another rider in Friday practice, Dan Crawford achieved three podium finishes and won both the 750 Superbike and 750 Superstock Novice championships in his first year of racing.

Jake Lewis – “Thanks! Thanks to Earl’s Racing Team, Millennium and KWS! Thanks to all the sponsors that helped us this year. Thanks to Garrett for pushing me at every track. We had a blast racing each other. Thanks to my family and Tryce Welch for all the support. It was an awesome year of racing. Thats all I can say. Thanks!”

Tim Hunt – “Its been a great year and I cannot thank all the sponsors enough for making it possible. We won one out of the two Championships we were going for and we won a lot of races so I can’t ask much more than that. It’s a shame the season ended the way it did with a spectacular crash, but that’s the way it goes. Congratulations to Tim Bemisderfer on the WERA Superbike Championship. We pushed each other all year long. I really want to thank my mechanic Aaron Ralph and all sponsors for their support. Especially Millennium Technologies, KWS Motorsports, Race Tech, and Dunlop!”

Luie Zendejas – “It was an awesome year and we learned a whole lot about what it takes to complete a full season at this level. Every time we went to the race track we learned something. I would not have been able to do any of this without the help of Michael Godin, Eric Knight and Mike Fitzgerald. A special thanks goes out to all the sponsors, especially Zero Gravity Windscreens, Yoyodyne, Thermosman Suspension, Riders Discount, Millennium Technologies, Andrew Swenson, and of course KWS Motorsports for all the help this year!”

Chip Spalding (KWS Manager) – “I can’t tell you how proud we are of Jake, Tim, Luie, Scott, Dan and all of our sponsored riders, teams, and customers. It was a great year and we are very much looking forward to doing it again next year. Special thanks to all of our long term friends, partners, and sponsors for supporting us and our racing endeavors for all the years.!“
