January 31, 2012 La Palma, CA — For more the 40 years, Performance Machine has been rolling along as the industry leader in brakes, wheels and performance accessories because of passion synonymous with the brand. This well-oiled operation is known for both its innovation and attention to detail… a direct result of the top-notch people behind the brand, says company President Mark Finnie. “We are proud to recognize Kelli Murrow’s award-winning brand building by promoting her to Performance Machine’s Director of Sales & Marketing.”

Kelli’s promotion comes just in time for all the all the craziness of a new catalog (the biggest in PM history), not to mention the trade shows, the recent expansion of RSD hard parts and the acquisition of Xtreme Machine Wheels. “Be careful what you ask for,” she jokes. “Seriously, I love what I do and I am fortunate to work with an organization packed with people who do too!” In nearly two decades since starting as the receptionist with Performance Machine, Murrow has seen the highs… and the lows of the powersports industry.

“I have been fortunate enough to experience growth and the recession of our industry and I can tell you that it is true — that which doesn’t break you really does make you stronger,’ says Kelli. “PM has worked diligently during the tough times and I am very, very lucky to have worked through the lows and happy to be in this position as we see growth once again.”

To get a copy of the 2012 Performance Machine catalog and to learn the latest of what is being rolled out, be sure to stop by Booth #401 during the V-Twin Expo in Cincinnati or Booth #1627 at the Dealernews International Powersports Dealer Expo in Indianapolis.

IRVINE, Calif., Dec. 6, 2011 – For the first time ever, the Motorcycle Industry Council is offering the motorcycling community an in-depth tire guide. Developed in conjunction with leading motorcycle tire manufacturers, this extensive, 20-page street tire guide is designed to assist motorcyclists with tire selection, inspection, maintenance and more. Not only does the MIC Tire Guide help riders choose the correct tires for their particular motorcycle and riding style, it also provides information on proper inflation, the hazards of overloading a motorcycle, and recognizing when it’s time to replace tires.

The MIC Tire Guide also helps riders better understand and utilize sidewall information, and includes color photos, technical diagrams and charts outlining speed and load ratings. Also included are tire-mounting suggestions, a primer detailing the differences between how motorcycle tires and car tires work, and tips for dealing with a tire failure. Finally, a Tire Replacement Log and a Load Limit Calculator are added for convenience.

“At the MIC, we believe that motorcyclists should have a thorough understanding of how their tires work,” said MIC President and CEO Tim Buche, “including how they differ from car tires, and how the available traction can change from moment to moment. This sort of awareness can prompt riders to be more diligent in inspecting and maintaining their tires, and also in replacing their tires at the right time. Overall, the MIC’s goal with this manual is to provide a guide that helps motorcyclists avoid premature tire wear, damage and ultimately, crashes.”

Individuals can download and print single copies of the MIC Tire Guide for free by visiting mic.org. Packs of 25 can be ordered for an introductory price of $19 plus tax and shipping. For larger quantities, contact MIC for special pricing. Additionally, the MIC is working with tire distributors and retailers on establishing further, more widespread distribution channels for the MIC Tire Guide.

The Motorcycle Industry Council exists to preserve, protect and promote motorcycling through government relations, communications and media relations, statistics and research, aftermarket programs, development of data communications standards, and activities surrounding technical and regulatory issues. As a not-for-profit, national industry association, the MIC seeks to support motorcyclists by representing manufacturers and distributors of motorcycles, scooters, motorcycle/ATV/ROV parts and accessories, and members of allied trades such as insurance, finance and investment companies, media companies and consultants.

The MIC is headquartered in Irvine, Calif., with a government relations office in metropolitan Washington, D.C. First called the MIC in 1970, the organization has been in operation since 1914. Visit the MIC at www.mic.org.

A variety of technologies have been incorporated into the new MICHELIN® Commander® II tire which give it up to twice [...]

A variety of technologies have been incorporated into the new MICHELIN® Commander® II tire which give it up to twice the usable tire life of its competitors* – making it the new standard in cruiser tire longevity – as well as providing a stable ride in a variety of conditions and styling that the discerning cruiser-motorcycle owner requires.

Following are a summary of the technologies incorporated into the new Commander II tire:

Silica Rain Technology (SRT) – Featured on MICHELIN Commander II radial tires, SRT integrates silica into the tire’s tread compound to improve grip in cooler temperatures and on wet pavement, without compromising tread life. Michelin was a pioneer in introducing silica into passenger car tires and continues that trend in the motorcycle realm.

For the majority of Commander II tires, which are bias-ply, new tread compounds were developed to echo the characteristics of the SRT-infused radial, with emphasis on tire longevity and wet-weather handling.

New Tread Pattern design – Tread pattern on the MICHELIN® Commander® II tire was influenced by the style of cruiser motorcycles as well as the popular Pilot Road series of tires with a “flame effect” design. Longitudinal grooves in the tread pattern evacuate water to enhance grip in wet conditions and the tread pattern has been optimized with computer design to maximize mileage.

Amplified Density Technology (ADT) – ADT is a rigid, high-density carcass architecture which allows for enhanced maneuverability and feedback to the rider, especially during cornering.

The difference between conventional 71-thread ply tires and the MICHELIN® Commander® II tire’s 90 thread ply illustrates the increased density of the new tire versus competitors:

Aramid fiber – All MICHELIN® Commander® II rear tires, except the narrowest sizes (80/90-21 and 100/90 B19) integrate Aramid fiber into their construction. Aramid is applied to the crown ply of the tire to allow for low weight and increased casing rigidity while providing stability at high speeds** by resisting growth.

Square-bead sidewall – The unique sidewall of the new MICHELIN® Commander® II tire features square bead wires in the tire bead. These wires improve bead strength and casing rigidity, which enhances handling.

Additionally, the square bead wires provide ease of installation by improving the primary air seal when mounting and inflating.

For specific photos of technology applications, please visit www.michelinmedia.com.

Dedicated to the improvement of sustainable mobility, Michelin designs, manufactures and sells tires for every type of vehicle, including airplanes, automobiles, bicycles, earthmovers, farm equipment, heavy-duty trucks and motorcycles. The company also publishes travel guides, hotel and restaurant guides, maps and road atlases. Headquartered in Greenville, S.C., Michelin North America (www.michelin-us.com) employs 21,400 and operates 18 major manufacturing plants in 16 locations.

LAS VEGAS, Nev.—The Throttle Nation staff takes pride in building and riding their own motorcycles. The latest example of that is the magazine’s BMW S1000RR project bike that will be in the Mickey Thompson display at this week’s SEMA show.

Built to meet the tech requirements of MIROCK’s Real Street class, the Throttle Nation S1000RR project bike is designed to both look good and go fast. Sales executive Stephen Jessie pilots the bike, and has high hopes for its success in the Real Street class.

“Thanks to the generous sponsors of this project, we’ve been able to build a really competitive bike,” Jessie says. “Our goal is to reach the 200 mile per hour mark in the quarter mile.”

While going fast is certainly a priority, so is using the project bike to educate readers with valuable tech tips and step-by-step instructions. Throttle Nation offers a wealth of technical know-how in each bi-monthly issue, with difficulty levels ranging from the beginner in his garage to the amateur customizer.

Modifications to the Throttle Nation BMW S1000RR project bike include a DaVinci Turbo System, Haltech engine upgrades, a Haltech/Racepak logger dash, and Hays Machine Works clutch upgrades. A set of Mickey Thompson/Avon tires get the power to the ground with help from Moto Heaven/Thrust sprockets. DME Racing’s billet aluminum swingarm and lowering links turn the S1000RR into a sleek drag bike, while the Penske PS7500DA drag shock offers fine-tuned suspension. Finally, custom paint, bodywork, and seat covers by Roaring Toyz give the project bike the perfect finishing touch.

“All of us at Throttle Nation are passionate about working on and riding motorcycles, and we want to use that passion to educate our readers,” notes publisher JP. “The modifications we made to the S1000RR will be seen in the magazine as tech articles, so our readers can achieve the same level of performance.”

SEMA attendees will be able to see the Throttle Nation MIROCK Real Street BMW S1000RR in person at the Mickey Thompson booth this week, November 1-4, at the Las Vegas Convention Center. It will also be featured in the pages of a future issue of Throttle Nation.

For this project, Haltech USA provided and installed it’s top of the line universal ECU, the Platinum Sport 2000. The Platinum Sport 2000 incorporates full control over Fuel and Ignition, as well as advanced features such as high resolution datalogging, dual mapping, fully adjustable boost control, CAN data network expansion for additional inputs and outputs, as well as control over auxiliary functions such as cooling fans, fuel pumps, electric oil pumps, and any additional accessories. Haltech also incorporated a Racepak IQ3 Logger dash, with GPS and 3 Axis G-Meter. This Display communicates to the ECU via a high speed CAN network, and receives and logs all vital engine data. In addition to the ECU and dash, Haltech also employed it’s new High Power Ignition (HPI4) module to supply current to the BMW coils, as well as a 4 channel CAN based Thermocouple Amplifier (TCA4) to monitor critical exhaust gas temperature. All of these fully tunable Haltech devices were all carefully installed utilizing a custom one-off engine and chassis harness, fabricated in house at Haltech USA’s Lexington KY office.

Lake Forest, CA October 5, 2011 — Scorpion’s EXO-1100 is a true technological triumph. Intended to build on the legacy [...]

Lake Forest, CA October 5, 2011 — Scorpion’s EXO-1100 is a true technological triumph. Intended to build on the legacy of the top-of-the-line EXO-1000, this next-generation helmet really does establish a new benchmark. Starting with the exclusive TCT™ (Thermodynamical Composite Technology) shell construction process and featuring a revised EPS liner, the EXO-1100 is entirely new, inside and out.

“Think of it as a ‘smart helmet’ when it comes to its ability to absorb impact,” explains Scorpion Sports Inc. Product Manager Michael MacGregor. “The shell is able to gradually crumple on impact, which allows it to absorb much of the energy generated by the shock, while still retaining the majority of its structural integrity.” Smart, indeed.

An added benefit of the TCT™ construction is lighter weight. The EXO-1100 weighs in around the same as helmets costing twice the price. “Our original EXO-1000 shell was based on a fiberglass and Kevlar® weave, which is great for protection purposes, but a little heavier than the upgraded fiberglass/Kevlar®/poly-resin blend of fibers found in the new EXO-1100,” says MacGregor. Poly-resin fiber is used extensively in the aerospace industry because of its combination of strength, lightweight, abrasion resistance and impact absorption properties.

Although the TCT™ technology may not be visible to the naked eye, fans of the brand will immediately recognize Scorpion’s SpeedShift® quick-change system, EverClear® no-fog shields and the exclusive SpeedView® integrated retractable sunvisor. The light-smoke SpeedView® internal visor eases eye strain in varying light conditions without the need to change shields or wear sunglasses. EverClear® coating ensures that the inner visor never fogs up, regardless of external riding conditions.

In addition to a full field of vision, the EXO-1100 also benefits from the AirFit® helmet inflation system found on the EXO-900, EXO-750, EXO-500 and VX-34 models. The AirFit® technology enables the rider to inflate the cheek pads providing a fine-tuned fit at the push of a button. Speaking of cheeks, the new lid gets the updated KwikWick®II moisture-wicking comfort liner and triple density cheek pads.

All this technology makes for a better fitting and lighter weight lid, without sacrificing protection since the EXO-1100 is ECE 22.05 certified and meets or exceeds DOT safety standards. Make the smart choice and check out the EXO-1100 for yourself!

MSRP for the EXO-1100: Starting at $289.95 for solids, $299.95 for most graphics.

Sizes: XS-2XL
