SENA SUPPORTS MOTORCYCLE SAFETY AWARENESS MONTH

– Bluetooth Innovator Reminds Drivers & Riders to Stay Safe and Avoid Unnecessary Distractions –

SAN JOSE, Calif. (May 17, 2012) – May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month presented by the National Safety Council. With warmer weather throughout the country, the National Safety Council encourages motorists to safely share the road with motorcyclists and to be extra alert when they are nearby. As an award-winning hands-free Bluetooth headset/intercom provider for motorcyclists and scooter riders, Sena is using the opportunity to remind automobile drivers of the dangers of distracted driving. It is also reminding motorcyclists of the importance of staying connected to other riders in their groups and the importance of being able to call for help if ever needed.

“Even though the NSC says motorcycles are vehicles with the same rights and privileges as any motor vehicle on the roadway, riders still find themselves at a much higher risk for injuries than those traveling in cars,” said Marc Woo, President North and South America of Sena Technologies, Inc. “We hear of riders nearly every day who have blown out a tire after encountering a rut in the road or who become separated from their riding groups in unfamiliar terrain. These are really dangerous situations. It makes us happy to know that more of these unfortunate experiences are being remedied by motorcyclists going out prepared with Sena and other Bluetooth units that keep them connected and safer at the same time.”

Sena Technologies, Inc. provides Bluetooth headset and intercom systems for virtually every kind of rider and at a variety of price points. The company’s entry-level unit, the SMH5, allows the rider to become connected wirelessly to his or her Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, GPS, mp3 player and more, plus another rider or passenger via intercom. Sena’s flagship unit, the SMH10, does everything the SMH5 does, and allows the rider to communicate via intercom with three other riders or passengers. Virtually all communication and function control can be done hands free utilizing the system’s voice prompts. Sena will also soon be releasing a Bluetooth headset/intercom designed especially for riders who prefer wearing half helmets. These devices allow riders to communicate hazards, call for help, get needed instructions in case they are lost and more.

About Sena Technologies, Inc.
Sena Technologies, Inc. is a leading provider of Bluetooth communication devices, including Bluetooth motorcycle intercom. Since its first and flagship product, the SMH10 Bluetooth intercom/headset for Motorcycle helmets, Sena has been a leading provider of Bluetooth communication systems for power sports and other outdoor activities. Sena offers its products worldwide through its global network of distributors, retailers and OEM partners.

Rolling Thunder’s 25th Anniversary Tribute Custom Motorcycles Ready for Unveiling

[MAY 15, 2012 - WASHINGTON D.C.] Rolling Thunder in Washington, D.C., is an annual motorcycle Demonstration Run that attracts well over 450,000 motorcycles and one million attendees and this milestone year will pull many more supporters. For this Memorial Day weekend event five tribute custom bike builds will be unveiled on Saturday, May 26, to honor Rolling Thunder XXV.

Jay Allen of Jay Allen’s Road Show and creator of the legendary Broken Spoke Saloon managed the tribute build project. Allen’s custom built U.S. Army bike, featuring an S&S Cycle engine and Baker Drivetrain transmission, inspired the bike build concept back in August 2011 at Sturgis when he was approached by Walt Sides and Ted Shpak, executives of Rolling Thunder, Washington, D.C., Inc.

The other tribute motorcycles were built by four distinct builders: Brigitte Bourget of Bourget’s Bike Works, tribute to U. S. Marine Corps; Dar Holdsworth of Darwin Motorcycles, tribute to U.S. Navy; Mike “Kiwi” Tomas of Kiwi Indian Motorcycle Company, tribute to U.S. Coast Guard; and Billy Lane of Chopper’s Inc., courtesy of Avon (Fla.) Correctional Institution, tribute to U.S. Air Force. These historic motorcycles are now on their way to Washington, D.C.

“I look forward to seeing the reaction on everyone’s faces when they see these five bikes roar to life as if reporting for duty, paying homage to our troops around the world,” said Jay Allen who will emcee the unveiling at the tribute stage. “These bikes, built by some of the best builders in the industry, are on a mission to honor each branch of the military as a symbol of strength, courage and power as they tour major venues across the country.”

Mike “Kiwi” Tomas departed from La Quinta, California, for his cross country journey to Rolling Thunder and is expected to arrive in D.C. on May 24. Saddled on his tribute Coast Guard bike–a customized 1945 Indian Chief, Kiwi Mike is making a number of significant stopovers and his adventure can be followed at kiwiindian.com. “We are about as sweet a spot we could be! The bike is getting its miles on now during this amazing Ride to the Wall,” said Tomas.

“The Kiwi Coast Guard bike build will be in our August issue, with the completed bike feature in the September issue,” said Chris Maida, editor of American Iron magazine. ”Mike has done a fantastic job and we’re very proud to be featuring his creation and to be honoring the Coast Guard.”

Navy Defense Media filmed Dar Holdsworth’s Navy tribute bike build and will air it on Armed Forces Network and navy.mil. “We have been involved in some very important builds. But none more than this. What Rolling Thunder symbolizes to me is remembrance and honoring those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country,” explained Dar, a Desert Storm Air Force veteran. “We as a country can never leave anyone behind and never forget. Our servicemen gave their all. And we are giving our all on this Navy bike to pay tribute. It is simply the very best bike we have ever built. We are honored to be part of this historic event.”

Brigitte Bourget of Bourget’s Bike Works continues to keep her U.S. Marine bike top secret and the editors of The Horse Backstreet Choppers are keeping Billy Lane’s tribute build to the U.S. Air Force under tight wraps.

The bikes will be unveiled May 26 in the afternoon at the C*A*M*M*O (Center for Military Music Opportunities) Tribute Stage located at Henry Bacon and Constitution Avenues, NW Washington, D.C., just across from Thunder Alley.

Each bike build is exclusively assigned to appear in a leading motorcycle publication: U.S. Marines – Iron Works, U.S. Navy – Cycle Source, U.S. Coast Guard – American Iron, and U.S. Air Force – The Horse Backstreet Choppers. The U.S. Army bike was previously featured in American Iron.

“What an honor it is for American Iron Magazine to be a part of this very special event and bike build,” Maida went on to say. “Rolling Thunder’s work on behalf of all our troops is so very important and needed. We can never forget the many sacrifices of our military personnel.”

These road-worthy bikes will tour around the country with the traveling “Wall that Heals” and at various military installations and events, Veteran Affairs locations, major motorcycle rallies, and potentially taken overseas to the troops. A title sponsor for the tribute bike tour is being sought now.

“The tribute build came together even better than we could have hoped. The dedication of these builders really shows in these magnificent bikes. We’re tremendously grateful to them and to all the sponsors who came to the table to support the builders and Rolling Thunder XXV,” said Ted Shpak, President of Rolling Thunder, Washington D.C, Inc.

Rolling Thunder’s First Amendment Demonstration Run for the Prisoner of War, Missing in Action (POW/MIA) issues has also evolved to be a display of patriotism and respect for service members and veterans from all wars. The Demonstration Run is Sunday, May 27. www.rollingthunderrun.com

Gold Rush: Josh Hayes and Yamaha Win Third AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike Race of the Year at Infineon Raceway [...]

Gold Rush: Josh Hayes and Yamaha Win Third AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike Race of the Year at Infineon Raceway

SONOMA, Calif. (May 5, 2012) - Reigning champion Josh Hayes registered a conquering performance in Saturday’s AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike contest at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif.

The Monster Energy Graves Yamaha ace was simply untouchable in the opening half of the Great Clips West Coast Moto Jam doubleheader, delivering a ride reminiscent of AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike great Mat Mladin, who was in attendance.

Despite being saddled with a second-row grid position, title rival Blake Young immediately latched onto Hayes’ rear wheel in the race’s opening laps. However, Hayes’ form was simply too great and he quickly broke the Yoshimura Racing Suzuki star’s pursuit. Hayes stretched his advantage by around a second-per-lap, lapping well into the ’36s while no other rider proved capable of cracking the ’37.0 barrier.

By lap three Hayes had nearly two seconds worth of padding and proceeded to build his advantage up to double digits before transitioning to maintenance mode in Mat-like fashion. He ultimately took the checkered flag with a 10.957-second margin-of-victory.

The win was Hayes’ fifth premier class triumph at Infineon Raceway and the 20th National Guard SuperBike victory of his career, tying him with Flyin’ Fred Merkel for fourth on the all-time list.

“Honestly, the race went to plan,” Hayes said. “I was excited to get a good start — I’ve been getting beaten up pretty bad on the starts it seems for the first couple of races. I got a pretty good run off the line and had some clear track and hoped I could string together a pretty good first lap and try to get myself a bit of cushion and see where I could go from there. I settled into a rhythm and kept plugging away… All-in-all, just a good day.”

After losing touch with Hayes, Young seemed destined for a lonely ride home to second, but it didn’t quite turn out that way. Team Hero Moto EBR’s Danny Eslick put in what can only be described as a ‘Hero’ ride, first clashing with and dispatching his old SportBike rival, Josh Herrin, and then tracking down National Guard SuperBike star (and former support class teammate) Young.

Eslick scratched his way up from several seconds back before finally arriving on Young’s rear wheel on lap 10 of 22. He then made his move on lap 13, taking advantage of a minor miscue on the Suzuki rider’s part to steal away second position on the upstart EBR 1190RS.

Young wouldn’t go down, however, desperate to minimize the damage of Hayes’ potentially perfect weekend. The Wisconsin native struck back in Turn 9 on lap 16 and turned his attention to fending off the feisty Eslick on the fast-developing EBR.

Eslick made one final assault on the final lap but Young held strong, just edging the Oklahoman who celebrated his team’s first National Guard SuperBike podium with a stand-up wheelie across the line that artificially inflated the gap from second to third (0.475 seconds).

Runner-up Young said, “I’ve been struggling all weekend long with my GSX-R, but the crew is working hard for me as always. Starting second row doesn’t make things easy and racing with Danny doesn’t either. I think we definitely learned a lot in today’s race and we need to apply it. I think we learned more in today’s race than we learned all weekend long.

“I got off to a fairly good start and found myself behind Josh. I didn’t know if I maybe needed to make a pass immediately but he’s just had the pace all weekend long to run up front and do as he pleases. I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s race and being able to apply what we learned and shorten up the gap, if not race with Josh.”

“That was pretty awesome,” Eslick said of his maiden SuperBike podium. “As soon as we showed up on Friday we had a bike that was working pretty good. Overnight we made a few changes and it really got the Team Hero EBR 1190RS hooked up. It didn’t even really concern me when I got bumped off the front row. The race definitely showed that we could do it pretty consistently.

“It’s just awesome — hats off to the team. To get a SuperBike podium is a dream come true, and I’m sitting up here with guys I’ve beat so I know I can win one of these.”

Hayes’ factory Yamaha teammate, Herrin, picked up a solitary fourth. The result was a fairly encouraging result for the class rookie considering his pre-race struggles around the physically demanding Infineon Raceway circuit.

Herrin’s regular sparring partner, National Guard Jordan Suzuki’s Roger Hayden, didn’t fare so well. The Kentuckian earlier warned that his second-place effort in qualifying was something of an illusion and he faded down from an early fourth to a disappointing tenth aboard an unruly machine.

Front-row qualifier Geoff May backed up teammate Eslick’s success with a top-five ride of his own on the Team Amsoil/Hero EBR 1190RS. May sputtered off the line in ninth and suffered a second mishap, which dropped him outside the top ten. However, the Georgian made a steady climb forward, moving into sixth behind KTM/HMC Racing’s Chris Fillmore late in the race. And under the heavy pressure of May, Fillmore lost the front and crashed out of the position with just a handful of laps remaining.

Attack Performance’s Steve Rapp overcame Jordan Suzuki’s Ben Bostrom for sixth, while Kneedraggers.com/Motul/Fly Racing Suzuki pilot David Anthony and Foremost Insurance Pegram Racing BMW’s Larry Pegram came home in eighth and ninth, finishing ahead of the aforementioned Hayden.

Hayes will look to put the finishing touches on a perfect points haul weekend in Sunday’s 22-lap AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike contest, scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. local time.

AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike

GEICO Suzuki’s Martin Cardenas won the Saturday AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike race at Infineon Raceway after a race-long battle with Jason DiSalvo (Castrol Latus Motors Triumph) around the 2.32-mile circuit. Cardenas won his 20th career AMA Pro victory with a move in the Carousel to pass DiSalvo, and made it stick the last lap and a half. The Colombian said he wasn’t planning to pass there, but he took full advantage of an opportunity.

“Today was a tough race,” said Cardenas. “I made a good start and made my way up. Jason and I exchanged positions quite a lot. I passed Jason and pushed and got a little gap, enough for a win.”

DiSalvo and Cardenas were dicing so fiercely that they even appeared to touch on course at least once, but the New Yorker said he enjoyed the battles. “That race was like riding dirt bikes in your back yard with your buddy,” said DiSalvo. “We knew the race was going to come down to the end.”

Cameron Beaubier (Y.E.S. Graves Yamaha) ran well in his first race back since injury to take the last spot on the GoPro Daytona SportBike podium, leading the field through Turn 1 in both starts of the red-flagged race. “I fell off their pace a little bit and the last six laps, I was just trying to get to the checkered flag,” he said.

Dane Westby (M4 Suzuki) showed fine form to get fourth, ahead of Tommy Hayden (Y.E.S Graves Yamaha).

AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport

Castrol Triumph’s Dustin Dominguez watched James Rispoli and Jake Lewis put on a show in front of him at Road Atlanta, but Dominguez was the man in race one at Infineon Raceway on Saturday. Dominguez won the 18-lap race by 0.170 seconds, but pulled away from his rivals in the last few laps.

“I felt pretty good the whole race, and just maintained the lead,” said Dominguez after his strong performance. “I knew James was back there and felt I had more left in case we started racing.”

Rispoli (Orient Express Celtic Racing) and Lewis (Riders Discount Vesrah Suzuki) battled once again, with second in jeopardy until the checkered flag. Rispoli, the West points leader, took second and Lewis closed out the podium.

Early race leader Tomas Puerta (RoadRace Factory/Red Bull) earned fourth.

The race was red flagged in the opening laps due to a crash involving Hayden Gillim and Cameron Gish. Gillim was able to re-start and charge from last to 10th.

AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series

Kyle Wyman won pole for the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series at Infineon Raceway. Wyman (KYL Group) beat some of the regular protagonists in the series for pole, including front-row starters Tyler O’Hara (Bartel’s H-D), Michael Barnes (Bartel’s H-D), and Kyle’s brother Travis Wyman (Harv’s H-D).

“I got a good feel for the circuit and could visualize the lap in my head,” said Kyle. “I wanted to do one more and go even faster.”

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 11, 2012) - With 54 riders signed up for the AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport race at Infineon Raceway, the field was large and competitive. Unlike Road Atlanta, where James Rispoli and Jake Lewis ran away, a trio of riders challenged in Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport Race 1 on Saturday and no less than five riders battled at the front in Race 2 on Sunday.

Dustin Dominguez (Castrol Latus Motors Racing Triumph) and Rispoli (Orient Express Celtic Racing) split the victories in Sonoma, Calif., trading the first two spots on both days. Some of their competitors were much closer than at the previous race at Road Atlanta, however.

On Saturday, a red flag came out on lap 4 when Cameron Gish (Z2 Racing) crashed in front of a helpless Hayden Gillim (RoadRace Factory/Red Bull). The on-track incident injured Gish, who was transported to an area hospital for evaluation. According to a team representative, the young standout was diagnosed with multiple pelvic fractures and minor injuries to his foot, knee and hands and is currently recovering at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

After the restart, Dominguez trailed Rispoli and Riders Discount Vesrah Suzuki’s Jake Lewis. Dominguez made a nifty double pass on lap five to take the lead, but could not split from his rivals until three laps from the end. He eased a slight gap, which evaporated with a wild celebratory wheelie over the stripe.

Dominguez was glad to be able to challenge his rivals in California after disappointment in Georgia, showing that he and his Triumph could best Rispoli and Lewis.

“At Road Atlanta, I got terrible starts,” Dominguez said. “I think I was like 11th going into turn one and just happened to work up through all that traffic. By the time I got there they were pretty much gone. We got a good start today and just being in that league pack gives you momentum to keep going and I think that was the key.”

Tomas Puerta took fourth place. The RoadRace Factory/Red Bull Yamaha pilot wasn’t pleased with his setup, but promised to do better on Sunday.

Garrett Willis (GWR Leo Vince Honda) came out on top after a hot fight for the top five. After taking a couple of seasons off from road racing, Willis returned to beat out young rider Wyatt Farris (Mach 1 Motorsports), Stefano Mesa (Kneedraggers.com Yamaha) and Travis Ohge (Meen Motorsports).

Corey Alexander (National Guard Fairhills Group Celtic Racing) finished in ninth position despite a five-second penalty for anticipating the start.

Gillim’s bike was repaired during the red flag with no time to spare and he managed to pass 37 riders on the track to take one of the hardest-fought top ten finishes on record.

For Sunday, Rispoli wasn’t to be denied, and neither were the red flags.

The first red flag stoppage came on lap 5 when Nadr Riad (Meen Motorsports) and local rider Nick Hayman (Munroe Motors) came together. Hayman was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition. Team representatives have set up a status update page for those wishing to offer support for Hayman at http://www.munroemotors.com/service

The second red flag situation led to a ten-lap showdown. Puerta led the early stages just like he had on Saturday but was passed, first by Rispoli and then by Dominguez five laps later.

Rispoi rebounded to earn his third win of the year and has established a 44-point lead in West points over Elena Myers (Suzuki Scoop Fans Sportbiketrackgear.com M4 Suzuki). After the race, James (sporting a platinum blonde hairstyle for the event) said he could hear the Triumph triple of Dominguez closing in on him.

“It was like ‘Jaws’ out there, getting louder and louder. I could here him out there. I just tried to run my own pace and if he came by, he came by,” said Rispoli. “I only made a couple of mistakes and it was really good.”

Domiguez was pleased with second and a great weekend. The Triumph ride collected the brand’s first win of the year along with a second on Sunday. “It was a little chaotic with the red flags and I didn’t really get a good start in any of the starts,” he said. “I had to put my head down and make some pretty aggressive passes to get up there. I caught up with James with two to go but he was on rails. I’d used up my tires and it started spinning up. Hats off to him for the win.”

Puerta was 14 seconds closer to the front on Sunday and the former AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport race winner said his 2012 season was finally on the right track. “We made a lot of changes for this race. The first red flag helped me a lot, too.” said Puerta. “We made a couple more changes that were really good. We’re a new team and working really hard. We struggled the first two races but now we’re on the podium.”

Lewis passed Gillim for fourth on the last lap. The top five finished within 2.65 seconds of the winner. Mesa was 6th on his Yamaha ahead of Alexander. Willis was 8th on Sunday ahead of Ohge and Gearzy Yamaha’s Colter Dimick.

AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport, the AMA Pro series for up-and-coming riders and fast local club racers, will return at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah later this month at a more wide-open circuit that offers a different challenge than Infineon Raceway.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 8, 2012) - On the strength of continued growth, AMA Pro Racing has announced a reorganization that will allow for an increased concentration on business development and an investment in executive personnel.

The Managing Member Board is initiating a search for a President, to lead AMA Pro Racing into a new era of growth.

Atlas, who has been central to the current success of AMA Pro Racing while acting as the company’s Chief Operating Officer, has assumed the role of Chief Business Development Officer.
Semper Ride’s ‘Fun Day at the Runway’ Aims to Save Lives by Teaching Motorcycling the Right Way

To ensure the event’s educational reach, participation has been deemed mandatory for all Marine motorcyclists in the First Marine Division, Marine Air Group 39 and Marine Corp Air Station Camp Pendleton.

Camp Pendleton, CA – (May 7, 2012) – Continuing the Semper Ride effort to keep the men and women in uniform safe at home, Camp Pendleton will host Semper Ride Fun Day at the Runway on May 18, 2012. The event is designed for Marines to increase safety awareness, improve motorcycle-handling skills and garner valuable information from seasoned motorcycle riders.

“We are committed to doing everything we can to ensure the safety of our Marines,” says Jeff Tilton, Semper Ride Project Manager. “Noticing an unusually high rate in motorcycle fatalities five years ago, it was clear that we needed to do a better job of educating and training our motorcycle riders. The Semper Ride campaign has played a significant role in reducing motorcycle mishaps and fatalities.

Semper Ride’s Fun Day at the Runway will feature educational sessions designed for every level of rider from those who have never ridden a motorcycle to the most experienced riders. Jason Pridmore’s STAR Motorcycle School will be giving one-hour clinics and track school throughout the day while American Supercamp will provide a “Learn to Ride” for new riders.

Beyond the motorcycle training, Semper Ride will put on a Poker Run, new product exhibits, freestyle motorcross, street bike demos and family entertainment designed to build camaraderie among the riders based at Camp Pendleton. Pro riders Ronnie Renner, Lance Coury, Jesse Jolson, Brice Hudson and Chris “Teach” McNeil will be on hand for demos, autograph signings and to offer advice to fellow riders.

The Semper Ride Fun Day at the Runway is mandatory for all motorcycle riders in 1st Marine Division, Marine Air Group 39 and Marine Corp Air Station Camp Pendleton. The Semper Ride campaign was created in response to an increase in the number of motorcycle fatalities and accidents by Marines. The ongoing campaign combines the “Semper Ride” film, with events, a website, public service announcements and local and regional programs. Since first premiering in 2009 at MCAS Miramar, the “Semper Ride” film has been seen by thousands of Marines and played a role in decreasing Marine motorcycle fatalities.

Motul® Named Official Lubricant Partner for the FIM

POMONA, CALIFORNIA — Motul®, a leading brand of motorcycle lubricants, is delighted to announce that it has entered into a three-year partnership agreement with the motorcycle governing body FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme.)

On Saturday, April 14 2012, FIM President, Vito Ippolito, and Hervé Amelot, Managing Director of Motul; officially signed the contract for Motul to become FIM’s official lubricant partner and official partner with the FIM Endurance World Championship. The contract was signed just prior to the start of the opening round of the EWC, the prestigious 24-hour Bol d’Or at the Magny-Cours International Circuit located in Nevers, France.

The Motul brand has a presence in 85 countries worldwide. Motorcycle competition plays a key part in its marketing and sales strategies. The company’s Managing Director, Hervé Amelot, commented on the new partnership with the FIM: “This is the perfect synergistic partnership for Motul. We are well known for our understanding and expertise in the field of motor sport lubricants and the FIM is obviously the fountain of all knowledge with regard to motorcycling. Our association brings these two ‘knowledge-banks’ together for the good of the sport and we are delighted to have the opportunity to showcase our range of specialized products to an increasingly wide international audience.”

Vito Ippolito, President of the FIM, said of the partnership, “We are delighted to welcome Motul as official lubricant partner to the FIM. We know the company well through their long association with major FIM World Championships such as MotoGP, Superbike, Endurance and Motocross. This partnership will truly allow our teams to share their respective expertise and we are looking forward to working hand in hand”.

Motul’s standing and reputation in the Endurance World Championship is unquestioned. For many years Motul has enjoyed a successful partnership with leading manufacturer representatives like the Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (SERT) with whom Motul has clinched four World Championship titles. In addition, Motul has won most of the prestigious races such as Le Mans & Le Bol d’Or, with National Motos and GMT 94 teams — including the World Championship title in 1994 with the Guignabodet team. In 2012, Motul continues to support race teams such as Monster Energy Yamaha YART, the National Motos Team and (new for 2012) the Honda TT Legends team.

International endurance racing is at the heart of Motul’s marketing strategy as it provides one of the best test beds and living research laboratories to prove the reliability and superior performance of its products. Today, racing machines are much closer to production bikes. Attendees at iconic events such as Le Mans, the Bol d’Or and Suzuka, for example; can see firsthand what a difference it makes to incorporate specialized lubricant products like Motul into these machines.
